Something for you – LND opportunities around Australia in 2024

This article provides information on conferences and workshops on literacy, numeracy and digital literacy. Check out the International Congress of Mathematics Education in Sydney, the VALBEC conference in Melbourne, the online  Australasian Corrections Education Association Conference and VET research conferences.

International (conference located in Sydney)

The International Congress of Mathematics Education (ICME) is holding its 15th conference in Sydney from 7-14 July 2024. This is the largest international mathematics education conference, held every four years. Several international adult mathematics/ numeracy researchers will be arriving for the conference, and New South Wales Adult Literacy and Numeracy Council in partnership with UTS will be exploring ways of organising a workshop with one or more of these researchers during their stay in Sydney.

Virtual

    • The Australasian Corrections Education Association Conference is holding its 15th Biennial International Conference, Broadening Horizons: Navigating A chaotic World from Tuesday 11 June to Thursday 13 June 2024. Check out their website to see the great range of international speakers and diverse themes that will be covered, including digital literacy and online learning. The virtual nature of the conference makes it accessible for a wide audience.

National

    • VDC’s VET National Teaching & Learning Conference is back in-person at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre on 15 & 16 August 2024. This year’s Conference theme is ‘From Competence to Excellence – Strive to Inspire’. Over 2-days there will be a variety of professional learning opportunities with a focus on VET practitioners, as well as a stream of sessions featuring VET applied research for other VET Sector professionals.     • AVETRA Conference The 2024 annual conference for the Australian VET Research Association (AVETRA) will be held 3-4 October in Sydney at the Aerial Centre, University of Technology, Sydney. The conference theme is “Impetus and Impact: Research that Challenges and Shapes VET Policy and Practice”. A Call for Abstracts will be released in May 2024. Victoria

VALBEC’s 2024 conference titled: Supportive practices in a transformative landscape will be held on 17 May 2024. It features Internationally renowned Keynote speaker Professor Vicky Duckworth who is “deeply committed to challenging inequality through critical and emancipatory approaches to education, widening participation, inclusion, and community action.”  There are three focus areas for presentations: ‘Responsive Practices’, ‘Community Engagement’, and ‘Empowering Learners’. NSWALNC Annual Conference 2024 -Placeholder

The New South Wales Adult Literacy and Numeracy Council annual conference will be held on 13 December this year at the University of Technology, Sydney.
