Getting Seafood For The Mob - Our Way

The Hotline often receives calls from adult literacy learners wanting resources at a beginner level that contain First Nations knowledge and stories. In response, the Hotline has developed a catalogue of beginner and post-beginner books with First Nations content for adult literacy learners. This will be on our website in January 2024 under the Learners -resources and First Nations People sections.

Some of the books in the Hotline catalogue are generously shared by authors from a community literacy program called Our Words Our Stories.  These were funded and produced by: Communities for Children, a partnership between Mission Australia, Greater Taree City Council Library and Child Care Services Taree and District in Taree NSW.  Other titles were developed by students in a volunteer tutoring program, run by Taree Campus, North Coast TAFE.

The Hotline is currently working with authors, editors and others connected to the Koori Writing Group who keenly understand the importance of books for adult literacy learners.  New titles will be added later in 2024.
