NAIDOC Celebrations

The Hotline was kept busy at the local NAIDOC Community Day in Sydney staffing the Drop-In Help adult literacy stall. Hosted by the NAIDOC Committee at Glebe Public School, the Community Day saw a huge turnout celebrating with dance, music, children’s activities and local service provider stalls.

Drop-In Help is an adult literacy and numeracy program run by TAFE NSW Eora Campus at The Glebe TreeHouse community centre located within the school. It is open to adult family members connected to the school and local community wanting to improve literacy, numeracy and digital skills or get other help such as assistance with forms.

Drop-In Help is also working with the school’s Winanggaay Program supporting Aboriginal parents in developing their children’s literacy skills and with pathways to and literacy/numeracy support during further education.

The collaboration with the Glebe TreeHouse was developed with the school’s staff including the legendary Aboriginal Education Officer, Aunty Wendy Buchanan and Deputy Principal (Instructional Leader) Aboriginal Education, Rondelle Ryan. The Hotline is proud to be involved in this great initiative bringing adult literacy and numeracy to a place where people already come.
