Adult Literacy Tutoring Program

The Hotline has developed a package of resources to help community organisations, such as libraries, set up an Adult Literacy Tutoring program. This package consists of:

Managing a community volunteer tutor program: a coordinator’s guide

The coordinator’s guide explains how to establish an Adult Literacy Tutoring Program. It explains the role of the coordinator including planning, selection of volunteer tutors, day to day operation, and ongoing support for tutors.

It is important you read the Coordinator’s Guide before delivering any training.

Volunteer Tutor Training Course

This is a non-accredited course for volunteer tutors. It is designed as a presenter-led course for groups of tutors rather than a self-access course for individuals. It is intended to be run face to face in libraries or community organisations. The course contains PowerPoints, Presenter Notes and videos covering a fifteen-hour training course, over five sessions.

The resource folder includes resources on writing, spelling and reading as well as links to videos and useful web pages.

Individual members of the public looking for volunteer literacy tutor training can call the Reading Writing Hotline for advice.
