Adult Literacy Specialists – still an endangered species

Adult Literacy Specialists – still an endangered species

Two years ago the Hotline reported on the shrinking number of graduate adult literacy teaching courses. At the time, there were four RTOs running the TAE 80113 Grad Dip LLN Practice. Recent enquiries indicate that only MW Training Consultants are offering the course for new enrolments in 2022. Students can enrol throughout the year in the TAE 80113 course from MW Training Consultants.

Nationally, there are two online university courses, The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and Charles Sturt University.

UTS offers Graduate Diploma and Master degrees in Teaching Adult Literacy and Numeracy. Applications for commencing your study in the Autumn session (beginning 21 February) open until 6 February. UTS has a limited number of Commonwealth Supported Places for the Graduate Diploma. You can contact the TESOL and Applied Linguistics Coordinator, Dr Keiko Yasukawa if you have any specific questions at Keiko.yasukawa@uts.edu.au. You can read more about the UTS program here.

Charles Sturt University delivers undergraduate and graduate distance/online adult LLN programs. For information about their Graduate Diploma of Adult Language, Literacy, and Numeracy see the link below https://study.csu.edu.au/courses/teaching-education/graduate-diploma-adult-language-literacy-numeracy. Session 1 for 2022 starts on 28 February and enrolments/applying for admission would need to be made before this date, though sooner rather than later would be best.
