Educators + Libraries: Making Connections

Team from Adult Literacy Connect

Sarah Ernst, Meg Cotter and team from Adult Literacy Connect

Adult Literacy Connect is a network of adult language literacy and numeracy professionals from public libraries and adult education. The group formed in 2016 after an Adult Literacy Round Table event at the State Library of Victoria and works together to develop and share resources and ideas that promote adult literacy.

With support from the Reading Writing Hotline and State Library of Victoria, Adult Literacy Connect is conducting research towards establishing an online portal of quality curated teaching and learning resources. This significant national project aims to address the needs of adult literacy practitioners (teachers, tutors, librarians, volunteers) who are supporting beginning level adult readers and writers. Recommendations for the portal design will be finalised in early 2019.

The portal would provide a centralised, user-friendly means for collaborative access to and delivery of adult literacy material, information and opportunities, and it will provide a means for people in rural areas to readily access important teaching materials. It will address resourcing and access constraints by providing a living resource that meets user demand with curation and management of resources for a variety of needs.

Stay tuned for more information in the coming year and contact the Adult Literacy Connect Project Officer at if you would like more information.
