Modern world encouraging rural and regional Queenslanders to seek help with reading and maths

An increased focus on digital technologies is encouraging Queensland adults in regional and remote areas to seek help with reading and writing, says a federally-funded training organisation.

The Reading Writing Hotline is a free referral service that assists people in finding education and training courses to improve their literacy, numeracy, and digital learning across the country.

Manager Vanessa Iles said a quarter of national calls were coming from Queenslanders.

“About a fifth of the population is in Queensland, and yet we have about a quarter of our calls from Queensland,” she said.
